Introduction:

To provide Control Net connectivity for adjustable frequency AC drives and motor controllers, Allen-Bradley created the 20-COMM-C communication adapter. Any Power Flex 700 class drive, in particular Power Flex 70, Power Flex 700, Power Flex 700H, Power Flex 700S, Power Flex 700L, and Power Flex 750, can be used with this communication adapter. The Drive Peripheral Interface (DPI) external communication kits are also supported for communication. This adapter works with a variety of different Power Flex 750 series SSDs and is compatible with both an optional I/O board and a DPI external comms kit. Functionalities like the node address switch, status indicators, parameter-configured I/O, full access to any Power Flex disk or peripheral device connected to the same network, and user-defined fault resolution processes are all provided by the 20-COMM-C adapter.

It has two (2) Control Net ports, designated Channels A and B. Channel B is designed to operate redundantly. The 20-COMM-C includes integrated status indicators made up of four (4) LED lights for indicating the DPI, adaptor, and network connection. A set of Node Address Switches are provided for configuring the adapter’s node address. It allows an unlimited number of input-only I/O connections as well as any sort of connection, including one exclusive-owner connection, three redundant-owner connections, and one listen-only connection. The adapter supports up to 20 concurrent CIP messaging connections and has a data transfer rate of 5 megabits per second. The 20-COMM-C adapter also allows a limitless number of input-only I/O connections and various connection types. The supported drive has data speeds of either 125 or 500 kilobytes per second.
