Introduction:

An SLC 500 discrete input module is the Allen-Bradley 1746-IB32. The voltage range for this module is 15-30V DC at 50 °C (122 °F) or 15-26.4V DC at 60 °C (140 °F), with a nominal value of 24VDC. Electrical components including switches, sensors, auxiliary contacts, and other binary or ON/OFF devices are frequently interfaced using this module. The 32 integrated input module channels may be used to connect up to thirty-two (32) input signals to this module.

The 1746-IB32 features a maximum off-state input voltage of 5VDC, a maximum backplane current draw of 50 mA at 5VDC, a nominal input current of 5.1 mA at 24V DC, a maximum off-state input current of 1.5 mA, and a typical signal latency of 8 ms for both ON to OFF and OFF to ON signal transitions.

As this module does not allow Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP), make sure to turn off the power before inserting the module. It has a detachable terminal block (RTB) that enables remote wiring to the module and simplifies maintenance by allowing insertion into another module of the same kind.

The 1746-IB32 has a 1500 Volt AC dielectric withstand and provides isolation from the backplane tested at 1500 Volts AC for 60 seconds between the backplane and the I/O.
